Type 2 Diabetes

In this type of diabetes chronic hyperglycemia also exists, but unlike diabetes type 1, insulin is present, although not in the quantity needed.

Diabetes Type 1 is the most common form of diabetes, because it represents between 90 and 95 percent of all cases.
It is a condition that is caused by having insufficient insulin in the body since the pancreas performs erratically and does not produce the amount needed. The glucose remains in the blood and increases the normal level.

Most of the people that are diagnosed diabetes type 2 are over 40 years old and are overweight. In general, the symptoms are not very pronounced and occur over an extended period.
Diabetes Type 2 can sometimes be controlled with a carefully planned diet, but often it also requires the administration of insulin.

Among the factors that may be considered as signs of this condition, there are two which we must pay close attention because of their special importance in the development of diabetes type 2.

Firstly: inheritance. If one of the parents, grandparents, brothers or even a cousin suffers from diabetes, there is a greater chance of developing this condition. There is a 5% risk of getting diabetes type 2 if the father, mother or brother is who suffers from the disorder. The danger increases to 50% if any member of the family has the disorder and is also overweight.

As a second factor, we have obesity. 80% of people who suffer from diabetes type 2 are overweight at the time they are diagnosed. Symptoms of diabetes disappear in many of these patients when they lose some pounds with a healthy diet.
